Frequently Asked Questions on Water

Under the Water Pricing Policy of the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government all non-domestic consumers of water are to be charged by Local Authorities for the supply of water and the discharge of waste water. This is in accordance with EU requirements and the "Polluter pays policy". There are no exceptions to this policy. Water provision is a service similar to electricity, gas and telecommunication services and must be paid for by the consumer.

Commercial Water/Waste Water Billings

Limerick City Council issues invoices to commercial water customers in one of two ways:

1. Quarterly - based on usage/consumption which is metered and is also subject to a minimum charge. Bills are sent out at the beginning of each quarter.

2. Annually - based on a fixed annual charge. Fixed Charge accounts are not metered. Reminders are issued on Fixed Charge accounts approximately twice a year.

Commercial Water/Waste Water Collection

Revenue Collectors have responsibility for the collection of Water/Waste Water Charges. Payment is due immediately on issue of the demand. In the event of non-payment, a water supply may be disconnected or disctrict court proceedings initiated. Queries regarding Water/Waste Water Charges may be made to:

Commercial Water/Waste Water Charges

The commercial water/waste water charge for metered supplies for 2009 is €2.30 per m³. A standard charge of €75 is also applied quarterly. Fixed Charge accounts are based on the valuation of the property as per the Valuation Office. The following is a complete list of Limerick City Council's Water/Waste Water Charges for 2009:
